In their speeches, the people’s deputies of Ukraine Serhiy Hordiyenko (head of the union) and Oksana Kaletnyk drew attention of those present to the problems of Ukrainian citizens residing on the territory of the unrecognised Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (TMR). According to the people’s deputies, more than 100 hundred thousand of Ukrainians live on the territory of this region. They require constant attention of the state to settle a number of issues.
Particularly S.Hordiyenko and O.Kaletnyk named: permanent access to the required official information form central and regional authorities (re civil state, trade relations, and pension provision, etc.), which is not provided at their request due to absence of diplomatic relations; organization of bus, railway and air connection with Kyiv and regions of Ukraine; increase of a number of border crossings; settlement of the issue of boarder cooperation and trade, etc.
Members of the Ukrainian delegation believe that lots of issues of Ukrainian citizens “could be settled promptly under the condition, the consular institution is opened and the earlier signed by Ukraine agreements and guarantees are fulfilled”.
Round table discussion was initiated by the Inter-faction parliamentary group of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on cooperation with the Verkhovna Rada of Transnistria. Representatives of governmental structures of the Russian Federation, Administration of the President and deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, President of the TMR Yevhen Shevchuk and the Chairman of the TMR Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mykhailo Burla, government officials and the people’s deputies of the TMR, people’s deputies of Ukraine, deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, deputies of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, experts and NGO representatives were invited to participate in the discussion.
